EV Tariff (subscription) Checked July 2026

OVO Charge Anytime Premium Plus Monthly Plan Explained

OVO Charge Anytime Premium Plus is the largest of OVO's current monthly electric vehicle charging packages. It costs ยฃ79.50 a month including VAT and includes up to 500 kilowatt hours of qualifying home smart charging each month. The package also includes a ยฃ240 annual public-charging voucher, domestic EV charger cover, a ClearWatt battery-health assessment and a 15 per cent discount on a Kwik Fit Club subscription. OVO estimates that the 500 kWh allowance could provide approximately 2,000 miles a month for a vehicle averaging four miles per kilowatt hour. Across a full year, that represents around 24,000 miles of home charging. Actual mileage will depend on vehicle efficiency, weather, speed and driving style. Premium Plus is an addition to an eligible OVO household electricity tariff. It does not replace the home tariff or reduce the cost of electricity used for lighting, cooking, heating, hot water or battery storage. This guide was checked on 11 July 2026.

What Premium Plus includes

The current package provides: The ยฃ79.50 monthly charge produces an annual subscription cost of ยฃ954 when maintained for twelve complete months. OVO's monthly-plan terms have applied since 1 April 2026 and remain subject to availability and future product changes.

  • Up to 500 kWh of managed home EV charging each month
  • A ยฃ240 annual public-charging voucher
  • Domestic EV charger insurance
  • One annual ClearWatt battery-health assessment
  • A 15 per cent Kwik Fit Club subscription discount

How the 500 kWh allowance works

All electricity entering the property is initially billed at the unit rate on the customer's normal OVO energy tariff. OVO then identifies the electricity used for qualifying smart EV charging and applies a Charge Anytime credit to the energy account. For electricity inside the 500 kWh monthly allowance, the credit reduces the effective home-charging rate to zero pence per kilowatt hour on the energy bill. The customer instead pays the separate ยฃ79.50 monthly-plan fee. The bill should show both the monthly charge and the Charge Anytime credit. The allowance resets every month. Unused electricity cannot be carried forward. A customer using 400 kWh in one month cannot transfer the remaining 100 kWh into the following month. Smart charging above 500 kWh receives no Charge Anytime credit and is charged at the ordinary household electricity rate. Urgent or boost charging is also charged at the customer's normal home rate rather than being included in the monthly allowance.

What 500 kWh means for driving

OVO converts the allowance into mileage using an assumed efficiency of four miles per kilowatt hour. At that efficiency: 500 kWh ร— 4 miles per kWh = 2,000 miles a month. Across twelve months: 500 kWh ร— 12 = 6,000 kWh. 6,000 kWh ร— 4 miles per kWh = 24,000 miles. These mileage figures are illustrations rather than guaranteed driving distances. A large electric SUV averaging 2.8 miles per kilowatt hour could obtain approximately 1,400 miles from the monthly allowance. A vehicle achieving 3.5 miles per kilowatt hour could travel around 1,750 miles. A highly efficient car averaging 4.5 miles per kilowatt hour could theoretically cover 2,250 miles. Cold weather, motorway speeds, cabin heating, battery conditioning and towing can reduce efficiency.

Effective home-charging price

When the full allowance is used, the monthly fee works out at: ยฃ79.50 divided by 500 kWh = 15.9 pence per kilowatt hour. This calculation ignores the value of the public voucher, charger cover, ClearWatt assessment and tyre discount. The effective home-charging cost rises when the customer uses less of the allowance. At 400 kWh a month, the subscription is equivalent to approximately 19.9 pence per kilowatt hour. At 300 kWh, it becomes 26.5 pence. At 250 kWh, it rises to 31.8 pence. Premium Plus therefore makes most sense where home charging regularly approaches the 500 kWh limit. A customer using only half the allowance could pay considerably more than they would through Charge Anytime Pay As You Go or one of the smaller monthly packages.

Comparing Premium Plus with Pay As You Go

Using the full 500 kWh allowance every month provides 6,000 kWh of annual smart charging. At OVO's current Charge Anytime Pay As You Go rate of 14 pence per kilowatt hour, 6,000 kWh would cost: 6,000 kWh ร— ยฃ0.14 = ยฃ840. Premium Plus costs ยฃ954 a year. For home charging alone, Premium Plus is therefore ยฃ114 more expensive than Pay As You Go when the complete allowance is used. The package also includes benefits with advertised values of: These benefits have a combined advertised value of around ยฃ337, before any value is assigned to the Kwik Fit discount. Subtracting ยฃ337 from the ยฃ954 annual plan price produces a notional net package cost of ยฃ617. Compared with ยฃ840 for the same 6,000 kWh through Pay As You Go, the package could represent around ยฃ223 of additional value. That calculation is only meaningful where the customer uses the complete home allowance, spends the public voucher and genuinely values the insurance and battery-health services. Someone who rarely uses public chargers or already has charger protection may receive much less value.

  • ยฃ240 public-charging credit
  • ยฃ42 EV charger cover
  • Approximately ยฃ55 of ClearWatt services

The ยฃ240 public-charging voucher

Premium Plus includes ยฃ240 of public-charging credit each year. OVO adds the voucher to the public-charging wallet in the OVO Charge app. It can be used through more than 400,000 participating charge points across the UK and Europe, including networks such as Osprey, MFG, InstaVolt, TotalEnergies, Fastned and Ionity. OVO estimates that the voucher could provide approximately 1,200 miles of public charging. That estimate assumes a vehicle efficiency of four miles per kilowatt hour and an average public-charging price of 80 pence per kilowatt hour. Actual mileage will vary according to the charger price and vehicle efficiency. An expensive motorway ultra-rapid charger will use the voucher more quickly than a lower-priced destination charger. The remaining voucher balance is removed if the customer leaves OVO, cancels the monthly plan or changes to Pay As You Go. The voucher should therefore be valued according to the amount of public charging the customer genuinely expects to use.

EV charger cover

Premium Plus includes domestic EV charger cover, which OVO values at ยฃ42 a year. The advertised cover includes accidental damage, fire, theft and vandalism, together with access to a 24-hour claims helpline. OVO also advertises unlimited qualifying repairs up to ยฃ2,000 for each claim and replacement where the charger cannot be repaired, subject to the policy terms and exclusions. The benefit may be useful once the charger's original manufacturer or installation warranty has expired. Its practical value is lower where equivalent cover already exists through home insurance, the charger manufacturer or another maintenance agreement. Customers must also activate and accept the separate insurance terms. Inclusion in the monthly plan does not mean that every charger problem is automatically covered.

ClearWatt battery-health assessment

Premium Plus includes an annual ClearWatt battery-health check and EV insights service. ClearWatt uses real-world driving and charging data to assess battery condition, practical range and charging performance. OVO gives the combined recommended retail value of the services as approximately ยฃ55 a year. The assessment may be useful for an older vehicle, a car approaching the end of its battery warranty or an owner preparing to sell. It is not the same as a manufacturer warranty inspection and does not guarantee that the vehicle maker will repair or replace a battery.

Kwik Fit Club discount

Premium Plus customers receive 15 per cent off a Kwik Fit Club subscription. The club can spread the cost of tyres and related services through a separate agreement. The exact saving depends on the vehicle, tyre size and selected package. The discount does not provide free tyres and should not automatically be treated as a fixed cash saving. A customer should compare the discounted subscription with the cost of purchasing tyres independently.

Smart charging and eligibility

Charge Anytime is available to eligible OVO pay-monthly electricity customers paying by Direct Debit. The home needs a working smart meter, and the customer must provide the half-hourly data needed to calculate Charge Anytime credits. The customer also needs either a compatible electric vehicle or a compatible charger. OVO remotely manages the charging schedule through the OVO Charge app and Kaluza Flex platform. The driver sets when the vehicle needs to be ready, and OVO chooses suitable charging periods within that window. The vehicle or charger must maintain a stable internet connection. If it goes offline, OVO may not record the session as smart charging and may not apply a credit for the electricity used.

Solar panels

Only grid electricity used for qualifying smart charging receives the Charge Anytime credit. Electricity supplied directly by the household's solar panels does not qualify because the customer did not buy it from OVO. Solar homes currently need a recognised solar-compatible charger, and some installations may require a current-transformer clamp to distinguish imported electricity from solar generation. Using surplus solar electricity directly may still be cheaper than drawing electricity from the grid under the monthly allowance.

Comparing Premium Plus with Standard Plus

Standard Plus costs ยฃ59.50 a month and provides 350 kWh of home smart charging. Premium Plus costs ยฃ20 more each month and includes an additional 150 kWh. Both plans include a ยฃ240 annual public voucher, charger cover, ClearWatt and the Kwik Fit discount. Across a year, Premium Plus costs ยฃ240 more and includes up to 1,800 kWh of additional home charging. At the Pay As You Go rate of 14 pence, that extra electricity would cost ยฃ252. Premium Plus can therefore offer slightly better value than Standard Plus plus Pay As You Go overage where the additional allowance is used consistently. Standard Plus is likely to be stronger where monthly charging remains below 350 kWh.

Changing or cancelling the plan

Customers can switch between Charge Anytime monthly plans or move to Pay As You Go. Changes take effect at the end of the current month. Cancellation also takes effect at month end, and the customer remains liable for the complete final monthly fee. Unused allowances and unredeemed benefits do not receive proportional refunds. The household electricity tariff remains a separate contract. A fixed OVO energy plan may still carry its own exit fee if the customer also decides to leave OVO.

Who is most likely to benefit?

OVO Charge Anytime Premium Plus is most suitable for a very high-mileage driver or household regularly using close to 500 kWh of managed home EV charging each month. It may suit someone driving approximately 20,000 to 24,000 home-charged miles a year, provided the vehicle remains compatible and can be left connected long enough for OVO to manage charging. The package becomes more attractive where the customer also uses public rapid charging and can spend the ยฃ240 voucher. It may be poor value for lower-mileage households, customers with irregular charging or drivers who already receive charger cover and battery-health services elsewhere. Premium Plus is not simply a cheap electricity rate. It is a high-capacity EV ownership package. Its value depends on using the charging allowance and the additional benefits rather than merely having access to them.
